I am a correspondent for Monocle 24 radio and Monocle magazine covering Austria, Central Europe and beyond, and have co-authored both Monocle's Vienna Travel Guide and Vienna City Survey.
I have reported for numerous other media including The Washington Post, The Washington Times, USA Today, Der Standard, BBC Radio 5 live, CBC radio and ORF.
I also make two podcasts: The Grid, a podcast about social enterprise and innovation, and From the Top, a podcast about contemporary jazz dance culture.
I began my career in 2010 as a news reporter and feature writer at the English-language desk of the now-defunct RIA Novosti news agency in my native Moscow, where I was also a columnist for The Moscow News newspaper and the Russia Profile magazine.
I graduated from Moscow State University, where I read European and American literature. I also attended Trinity College, Dublin, and the University of Vienna.
